$5 Community Evening Flow
After Newbies, then what? For some, the skills acquired in Newbies I & II are the appetizers for moving forward into exploring other styles of Yoga or more challenging classes such as our "Flow" classes. This class provides a 'bridge' from one side of the river to the other, much as we might move from 'calm' currents, into more challenging rapids. Here, you closely examine Sun Salutations A & B, to build strength and stamina in Flow sequences, yet be ever mindful of critical transitions and ways to modify alignment within your unique abilities.
This class is suited for beginners and experienced students, wishing to deepen their exploration of Vinyasa style yoga, and at $5, a great way to s t r e t c h your yoga dollar! (exact fee appreciated)

Yoga Therapy by private appointment
Yoga therapy is a client-centered, comprehensive system designed to support the body's natural ability to repair and find balance. These private sessions are guided by an initial interview to assist in defining a client's therapeutic goals.
A variety of techniques may be employed to address the physical body, including Thai Yoga Therapy methodologies, traditional yoga postures, and fully supported restorative postures. By utilizing supportive props, the benefits of Yoga Therapy are accessible even to those recovering from injury or illness. Emotional and spiritual realms of being are supported through breath work, meditation, and guided imagery. These complement the physical aspects of supported postures, aiding to balance the body and ease the mind.
Shawn has completed Level I & II studies in Therapeutic Yoga with Cheri Clampett and Arturo Peal, through the White Lotus Foundation, Thai Yoga Therapy with Phoebe Diftler of Los Angeles, and has received certification as a Yoga Therapist with the International Association of Yoga Therapists (C-IAYT). Her nearly 30 years as a provider of anesthesia brings a deep understanding of breath physiology and it's quieter subtleties.
Sandy brings keen eyes honed by years as a Physical Therapist to her private Yoga Therapy clients. Starting with the breath as a basic parameter and guide to movement, Sandy offers insight as to how yoga brings awareness to our activities of daily living, on and off our mats. Sandy has also received certification as a Yoga Therapist with the International Association of Yoga Therapists (C-IAYT).
Jutta completed a three year training (1994-96) as a Breath Therapist, at the respected Ilse-Middendorf Institute for the Perceptible Breath, in Berlin, Germany. Perception of the breath, as the very nucleus of life, weaves gracefully through her yoga teachings and her gentle touch as a massage therapist. It is through breathing, sensing, and centering, by which she supports an integration of body, mind, and spirit. Jutta has also received certification as a Yoga Therapist with the International Association of Yoga Therapists (C-IAYT).
Appointments may be scheduled with our Yoga Therapists, Mon-Fri by email listed below, or contact form found at the bottom of the "class schedule" page.

'Vinyasa', or to 'place in a special way', is a linking or continual flow of asana (postures) arising from the Sun and Moon Salutations. Initiated and tethered by the breath, this style becomes a moving form of meditation, strengthening our response and connection to life's 'present moments'. Drawing from several yoga traditions and creative intuition, this class is well suited for those with prior yoga experience seeking a moderate cardiovascular challenge, and deepening studies of inversions, back bending and arm balances.

Tai Chi Seascapes™
5 week SESSION $63 Pre-register with instructor to reserve space
JAN 11-FEB 8, 2018
This class is rooted in the teachings of traditional Tai Chi Chuan, and is based on my book Tai Chi Seascapes. Each of the 18 postures has a name inspired by personal reflections gained over a lifetime of visits to the Oregon coast. The form is a beautiful, relaxing moving meditation, and the various seascapes association makes remembering the form fun and easier to learn than many traditional forms.
There are numerous health benefits associated with Tai Chi including improved balance, lowered blood pressure, increased bone density, and improved sleep. Also, weight shifting, a technique utilized quite often in the Seascapes form, is gentle on joints and helps reduce your risk of falling. On an emotional level Tai Chi helps reduce stress, anxiety and depression. On an spiritual level it can offer insights into yourself, relationships and your connection to the Universe.
This form may also be done while seated for those with physical challenges. As a variation, I also enjoy integrating a gentle cardiovascular component with the Seascapes form, using a Chinese exercise called Luk Tung Kuen for strength, flexibility and brain fitness. Class concludes with QiGong, seated yoga, and self acupressure techniques which help open the meridians toward self healing and re-balancing flow of the body's energy.
Come join me~ the Ocean awaits!

Yoga for Balance with Flexi-Bar™
Currently out of Session....returns FEB 26, 2018
This class combines yoga poses with the vibration techniques of the Flexi-Bar, a fiberglass bar with weighted ends that has proven scientifically to activate and to strengthen the smaller deep-lying muscle groups, to improve balance, flexibility and posture. The Flexi-Bar has been awarded the seal of approval of the Campaign for Healthier Backs, the AGR quality cachet in 2007. (Aktion Gesunder Ruecken, Germany)
After warming-up with easy mobilization of the spine, shoulders and pelvis, we will swing the oscillation bar at low amplitudes stimulating the connective tissues and entire chains of deep-lying muscles while being in specific yoga poses. To unravel further tensions in the vitalized tissues, we will end our practice in Savasana.

I have been attending Shawn's classes over a 10 year period. Her ability to explain Yoga in the context of Yoga history, and physiology in a meaningful way makes her classes more than just another physical exercise experience. And, yet; her quirky humor makes us not take ourselves too seriously as we examine our own abilities to follow her lead. I always look forward to her workshops, and sessions because I always get something useful to add to my practice.

Yin Yoga with Myofascial Release
Yin Yoga works on the Yin tissues, the web of connective tissue which is everywhere in our body. It lies within the inner layer of our skin, interpenetrates every bone, joint, organ, tissue and cell. It allows our muscles and organs to smoothly slide upon each other. This continuous network is rich in sensory nerve endings providing us with the ability to feel our body as a whole.
Fascia is found throughout our body as a fiber and fluid based tri-dimensional web of connective tissue. When unrestricted, it allows our bones, muscles, organs, blood vessels and nerves to smoothly slide upon each other. This continuous fascial network is rich in innumerable sensory nerve endings providing us with the ability to feel our body as a whole. According to the studies of Thomas S. Myers, there are several myofascial meridians to distinguish. These include the Superficial Back line, Superficial Front line, Lateral line, Spiral line, Arm line, Functional lines and Deep Front Line.
Yin Yoga poses are held between 3 to 5 minutes to allow the connective tissue to elongate and rehabilitate.
The practice involves extensive use of a variety of props, blankets, blocks, straps, and bolsters to name a few. Yin Yoga calms the mind and the nervous system, which enables us to turn inward, "yin-ward", and to focus on the rhythm of the natural flow of the breath. All levels are welcome!

Gentle Yoga with Breath Experience
Currently out of Session...returns FEB 22, 2018
This afternoon yoga practice includes gentle poses of the Yin (passive) and Yang (active) styles, appropriate for beginning or experienced yoga practitioners. Jutta'a teaching is alignment based, and explores asana (postures) in ways which incorporate theories of 'myofascial release'.
Middendorf Breath Experience is named after German-born Ilse Middendorf (1910 - 2009), who was devoted to breath and developed this conscious breath experience. By letting the breath develop its natural breathing rhythm, we allow it to flow through the body without imposition. Through specific sequences of movements, we will become aware of how the breath responds naturally. When we connect with our own individual breathing pattern, we access the breath’s ability to heal, to bring balance, harmony and growth into our lives, to connect with the essence of self.
Thur 4:00p email@example.com
A full 2 hour treat offered monthly as a reminder to take time for ourselves, and simply focus on letting go and letting be. Restorative Yoga invites the body to relax and rest deeply through passive, supported postures, enhancing realms of our parasympathetic nervous systems. By offering your body and mind time to rest deeply in stillness, the breath acts as a soothing balm of present intention for the mind, supporting the body's innate wisdom toward healing. Within this quiet, safe space, lies an opportunity to investigate habitual holding patterns in your body and release tension and fatigue. As you learn to observe the sensations of your body without identifying with them, this "non-doing" acts as a window to the core of your being. Turning deeper inward, you begin to realize how external perceptions are biased by internal emotions and sensations.
Supported postures are sustained for 5-10 minutes, invoking deepening states of relaxation as a portal to meditation. Open to all, novice to experienced practitioners.

Currently out of Session...returns MAR 11, 2018
This 90 minute practice begins with extending all limbs and moving all joints of our body, and allowing the breath to enter our body, giving us space and energy. By letting the inhale arrive, letting the exhale go, and pausing in the breathless moment until the next inhale returns naturally, we connect to our Self . We become aware of what is stirring for expression inside of us. In time, we experience the pleasantly free flowing breath and find joy in the interaction of b r e a t h I n g and d a n c I n g.
"Dance is as elemental as the breath, for both are rooted in rhythm and movement.
When they pervade each other, they are true, intrinsic life." ~ Ilse Middendorf
