                                           the BUDDHIO...a 'Perry' Tale

Long ago in the heart of the South Perry District, situated near Grant Park on east Spokane's lower
South Hill, the foundation was laid for a humble rectangular building.  This simple, clapboard structure was built at the turn of the century in 1908.  That was a 103 years ago, and albeit in need of much love and repair, the structure still stands proudly today with an important historical presence.

Over the years it has befriended the community in many ways.  It was the original Grant Elementary gymnasium, a movie theater and performance stage, where beneath, the old Rialto Theater seats await new life and purpose.  Rumor has it that a rather mischievous, yet benevolent 'presence' still lives here and enjoys flickering lights, rattling knobs and such above on the second floor.  More recently, for over 40 years it  was home to Sensei Chinin's beloved Dojo.  Currently, it provides a winter home for the South Perry Farmer's Market, community yoga, dance and other movement arts, and on Sunday the children's Dharma school gathers on its second floor.

As well we know the one constant in life is change, so begins a new chapter for this historical space. Our vision is to bring back its' original vitality and purpose as a place to gather, to share our wisdom and hearts within our local community.   It will co-host Thursday evening district Art Walks, after school community theater, concerts and acoustical music performances, conferences and workshops.

Our community is ever so thankful for this gracious space we now fondly call the BUDDHIO.  Your generous donations and support of its events are means by which we may ensure the preservation of this historical building.

Long Live the BUDDHIO!
